In his first race preparation with the stable Ashman has certainly taken all before him with a dominant victory in the 100k Midway at Randwick followed by an outstanding all-the-way win in the G3 Cameron Handicap at Newcastle with Jeff Penza aboard.
Jumping up markedly in grade and having just his 5th start for the stable, Ashman travelled in his favourite spot in front and being a free running type of horse he definitely carved up some quick sectionals early in the race before having a little breather mid-race before kicking strongly as they turned for home.
Under siege all the way down the home straight, Ashman showed tremendous courage to hold off all the challengers to win his biggest race to date and in doing so booked himself a berth in the G1 Epsom handicap to be run at Randwick on October 2nd!
