As it does more often than not, Global Encounter was sent to the post a short-priced favourite on Saturday at Gosford and it wasn’t just the professional punters who thought he could win but I would say the many friends and followers of the great and well-respected horse racing analyst and part-owner Deane Lester who sadly passed away on Thursday night.
WIth a big load to carry Global Encounter did everyone proud when he scored a tough, tenacious victory in the BM 64 over 1900m and with Keagan Latham riding him strongly to the line he was able to withstand the late challenge of Tiva Bay to score by half a length with the 3rd horse 5 lengths away.
Rest in Peace Deane Lester
